"False Deceit"
Tameka and Brian Gannon have been married for seven years. They fell in love at a young age and decided that it was time to tie the knot with just two words, “I do.” On a normal day, they would go to work and return home around 5:00 to spend the rest of their afternoon with each other. Recently, Brian has been returning home later than usual on some nights, which causes Tameka to become suspicious of his behavior. After observing this for about a week, she decides to ask him what’s going on. After all, she has a right to know the truth, right? As Brian sneaks in the house late one night Tameka comes out of nowhere and asks, “Where have you been?” Brian, being the typical man that he is, decides to lie and say that he’s been working late. Tameka, wanting so badly to believe him, actually falls for it and drops the subject. She thinks to herself I’m over-reacting and that it’s probably nothing.
The next few weeks seem to go by just fine. Everything is back to normal and Brian is home on time every night. Tameka’s suspicions arise again when she notices that Brian has been getting late night text messages and phone calls. On Monday night, Brian tells Tameka to go to bed without him because he wanted to watch the late night football game. Once she actually hears the football game on, and realizes he’s telling the truth, she drifts off to sleep. A while later she hears his cell phone start to ring. She turns over and sees that the clock reads, 12:30 am. Downstairs, Tameka hears Brian answer the phone and say, “Hey Brenda, what’s up.” Tameka begins to act neurotic because Brian never told her about a female coworker named Brenda. She starts to pace back and forth in their room. Brian only told her about Stacy and Jennifer when she asked if he worked with any women. She does her best to go back to sleep, so she can address the situation in the morning.
That morning, Tameka asks Brian who he was talking to on the phone. He looked surprised that she asked him such a thought-provoking question. Brian came up with an unsatisfactory story, so Tameka began to surmise that Brian was officially having an affair with a woman named Brenda. He assured her that he wasn’t, but that only caused an argument. Tameka was vehement every time she looked at Brian. She thought to herself, how could Brian do this to me right before our anniversary. This was their eight year anniversary and she wanted everything to be perfect. If Brian says it’s nothing, then it must be nothing. The thought of Brian being a cheater began to slowly diminish. Tameka noticed that he wasn’t getting any late night phone calls lately. To make up for her distrust in him, she wanted to surprise him and bring him lunch at work.
Tameka headed for Brian’s workplace around noon. When she finally arrived, what she witnessed made her wish she never came in the first. Brian was already having lunch with another women. Tameka sat at a nearby table to listen in on the conversation between her husband and this mysterious women. “Thanks Brenda, I could have never done it without you.” Brian explained to Brenda. Tameka was astounded. She got up and left the restaurant immediately. Although she was furious with Brian, she continued to pretend that everything was fine in their relationship. She conjured up a plan to spy on Brian just to see what he was up to herself, since he wouldn’t tell her the truth. She spied on him long enough to notice that he met with Brenda once a week.
Tameka was furious and decided that she had to get revenge. She wanted him to feel as much pain as she did. On the night of their anniversary, while cooking dinner, Tameka attempted to poison Brian’s dinner. She crushed a variety of pills from their medicine cabinet together and sprinkled it over their dinner. After serving the food, Tameka took a seat at the table and they began sharing the day’s events with each other. As Brian took a bite of his meal, an evil smile spread across Tameka’s face. He began to choke and before he could reach for his water Tameka snatched it away from him. He passed out on the dining room floor. To make sure it didn’t look like murder, Tameka called the police immediately. Brian was rushed to the hospital. On her way to the hospital to see her husband, Tameka practiced what she was going to tell people and making herself cry repeatedly. When she arrived the doctors rushed over to tell her that when he passed out Brian suffered a severe concussion, and that it’s a possibility that he will suffer from some short-term memory loss.
A short while later, the doctors informed Tameka that she was finally allowed to see her husband. She acted as if she did nothing at all. Brian began to profess his love for her and explain all about the late night phone calls and Brenda. He told her that Brenda was an event planner, and she was helping him plan a fabulous night for them at a restaurant they would have all to themselves. Tameka felt a rush of guilt. “What have I done?” She muttered under her breath. As long as he didn’t regain parts of his memory back Tameka thought everything would be fine.
“I’m sorry, what did you say honey.” Brian said.
“Oh, it it was nothing. You just get some rest.” Tameka responded nervously. Little did Tameka and the doctors know, Brian remembered everything, and was just waiting for the perfect moment to devise his next move against Tameka.
